National Museum Bangkok
With major collections of historic artefacts and Buddhist art, this Museum is the largest of its kind in SE Asia. Thailand's artistic treasures of the Dvaravati, Lopburi, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin periods are well represented here.Na Phrthat Rdm Phra Borommaharachawang Sub-district, Phra Nakorn District, Bangkok 10200 Located between Thammasat University and The National Theatre,opposit Grand Park (Sanamluang) The museum opened in 1928, and was originally the palace of the 'Deputy King' of Thailand. The palace, built in 1782, houses many beautiful and diverse exhibits including elephant howdahs, royal furnishings, weapons, porcelain and musical instruments. The spectacular Funeral chariots can also be seen on the site. The Buddhaisawan Chapel (Tamnak Phutthaisawan) in the Museum grounds, contains well preserved murals depicting the life of Buddha and the second most important Buddha image in Thailand, the Phra Buddha Singh.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday. Whenever this day is a holiday the museum will open except on Thai New Year and January 1st . Some rooms may be closed at lunch time. Entrance fee : B. 40.
